Sequatchie Valley 1-arc-second Mesh and NLCD Landclass

Dec. 08, 2004 Here are a high-resolution terrain mesh and a landclass file for Eastern Tennessee, extending southward to Atlanta, GA. Originally I created a much smaller scenery just for the Sequatchie Valley region so I could use it when flying in Eric Carden's Sequatchie Valley Challenge race, but now I've expanded the coverage to the entire LOD5 tile. The mesh has been created from SRTM 1-arc-second data (30 m) with voids interpolated, and resampled to LOD 10 (38 m) for fs9. The landclass presented much more of a challenge. The source is the NLCD 1992 data. I wrote an application to resample the data in an effective and controllable way and translate the NLCD classifications into FS classifications. In order to decide how to translate the values I cataloged the entire range of FS land classifications for all seasons, and collected pictures and descriptions of the area for reference. The coverage is the 12,-22 LOD5 tile, bounded by: 36.562500 -86.250000 and 33.750000, -82.500000.

The mesh and landclass are packaged as two separate zip archives, so be sure to download both of them.
